Ok so I did a d-u today , KDE was upgrade or at least parts of it.

Everything went ok, didn't notice any problems, till I went to look at kcontrol. The Kanotix menu entry for knxcc was removed. And the
items under the kmenu>kanotix>configure were moved to lost/found.

The kmenu items were easy enough to fix, but the Kcontrol menu I cant seem to fix.

knxcc wasn't removed during the d-u, just the Kanotix menu entry in kcontrol.

I tried removing it and reinstalling with no luck, still no kcontrol Kanotix menu.

So if anyone has any suggestions on how to fix this please let me know.

not much you can do, but wait, until its fixed.
the functionality of knxcc in konsole/tty is still there.

hi all am a total noob ,run into the same problem today i was install xmoto using apt install and after completing this i realised that i could not get into admin mode via the kde however using terminal i still have access to root.
When i went to Control Centre (kcontrol) the menu was empty.
What is the easiet way of regaining control other than a total reinstall like in windows
Help will be appreciated

Moral Do not repair what seems to be working well

You can try first:

apt-get install kcontrol --reinstall

and if it does not work:

dpkg -i --force-confmiss --force-confnew /var/cache/apt/archives/kdebase-data_4%3a3.5.2-1_all.deb

apt-get install --reinstall kdebase-data

(the first two lines are one command)

good luck

I used this

apt-get install --reinstall -o DPkg::Options::=--force-confmiss -o DPkg::Options::=--force-confnew kdebase-data

which i think should do the same as the one you suggested . Menu items were returned to kcontrol and am now able to log in as root as well
