hey there,
i have insalled opera and want to get flash working for it, like it is working in firefox..has anybody done this yet?
normally, i would install linux version of flash, download it and get it working in mozilla first, then opera would see mozilla's plugins and it would work.
however, i am assuming flash is already installed since it works in firefox..and opera is looking in the netscape plugin folder.....however when i goto a flash site in opera, it directs me to download the linux flash plugin...

what gives?

If you go to the micromedia Flashplayer site, it gives instructions for installing to different browsers. Plus, when you download flashplayer-installer for linux, it installs a couple of readme files that walk you through the operation. You will have to close the browsers and use the command line, but it is quite easy, even for a CLI phobe like me.

hope that helps. Took me awhile to find it too.

hey,

yeah, that's prob what i'lm going to have to do to get it to work....
there has to be a better solution though.....
perhaps my post should have read "how does flash work in firefox,, so i can export it over to opera?"
along time ago, before firefox, the way to get it to work was to download the plug-in for netscape(mozilla), get it working, and then opera took(stole) its plugins from the netscape(mozzilai) plugin path
since this distro already has flash working for firefox(which is the NEW mozilla), there should be a way to export the plugin path over to opera.
i was wondering if anyone has done this already.....
i also didnt want to download another flash plugin and "break" the already working firefox plugin...but like i said i dont know how that one works...

always have fun

hey,
got it woking...googled on what was needed to make firefox flash work...
seems it works by having the two files flashplayer.xpt & libflashplayer.so in the plugin path...
checked in /usr/lib/netscape/plugins and these 2 files were there
checked in opera to make sure it was looking for plugins in that path..it was
was puzzled on why it wasn't finding flash...so i decieded to copy the files from the ..../netscape/plugins folder to /usr/lib/opera/plugin folder..
here is where the puzzle is...they wouldnt copy...so i went and downloaded the flash-installer so i could manually copy the files from there to the /usr/lib/opera/plugin folder...
copied the files and opera suddenly was flash enabled....
so i got flash working in opera......

update---
so i investigated the /usr/lib/netscape/plugin folder and it seems that the 2 files are linked to /usr/lib/flashplugin-nonfree/ and that is a broken link..
so somehow firefox works with flash w/these broken links...
who knows..all i know is that it works

have fun

I am using 2005-4, and Firefox didn't seem to have flash working out-of-the-box. I proceeded in the fashion that I mentioned. I suppose that this shows, more than most examples, that there are many ways to achieve the same goal. Hope your Kanotix adventure is going as well as mine. Sehr glücklich
