After installing few torrent packages (namely Azureus, Bittorrent and Bittornado), I couldn't find them in the KDE menu, (except the Azureus, that did appear in K->Internet menu) Neither could I invoke them with bash!

Synaptic shows all those programs as *installed* so they're obviously there!

Is there anyway I can access these programs?

cheers

try Kmenu - search
the search will find your programs and show their location
then start from there

or if you find a .torrent file just klick on it and the gui opens.
The gui could also found at k/Debian/network or K/Debian/Tools

If you would like them in your K-Menu, go to settings -> menu updating tool.

After the "Settings -> menu updating tool", most of these apps I apt-installed appeared under the Debian menu rather then the KDE menu, but they're still not running!!! (neither do they appeard to have icons)

This is the most puzzling linux prob(..) ever!?!

I just checked with Synaptic then with apt, many apps I installed are shown as installed!

more reading and search!
but meanwhile, any other suggestions?

try to get kanotix via torrent. go on the left side download chose the distro you want, and as type of dl use torrent.
next save the link. Back to konqueror and the place where you saved the link. do a Klick and the bittornado/torrrent-gui opens automaticly. some sec. later the dl starts.

Howto with azareus or similar ???

nitto,
most any installed app should run, if you give the correct name into a konsole, like:
Code:
devil@devilsbox:~$ amarok &
the & is only there to keep the konsole usable after starting the app. some may need root access, but most dont.

nitto,
Using the Kmenu editor, you can also copy and paste any app to another menu location, or even create a new catagory, like "Common", "my_apps", or whatever. You can also add icons to apps that don't have them in kmenu editor. Hey, go wild! Anyway this is easy, if the newly installed app is already somewhere in the k-menu list. If you can't find it there, find the path to the app first, then in kmenu editor, create a new entry and paste your path in.

On the other hand, if double-clicking on an app in kmenu doesn't open it, try as Devil suggested opening it in the terminal. If neither of those work, then maybe there's an issue with the installation or something else.

Regards,
Ron

svgalib: Cannot get I/O permissions
but I can run it as root....

I'm new here and to linux but I use kpackage and selected ktorrent. It installed and is present in the k menu. Runs in gui, which I need since I am coming over from windows. Smilie.

I had a problem like that with limewire. I found, through the help on this board, that I had to find the executable file and then in konsole do "./filename" That put it in the menu. Or you can find the executable and link to a shortcut on the desktop.

This could be an issue with my installation rather then kanotix but same thing just happened with OpenOffice.
I installed openoffice-kde using apt-get install. I can only bring the open office write on the shell, but nothing on the K menu at alll, such as spread sheet etc...
Is this an KDE issue, if so how can I check/fix this??

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>if you want en-gb

first: apt-get remove --purge ash-kanotix ooo-kanotix openoffice.org2 [if present] then, apt-get install openoffice.org openoffice.org-kde openoffice.org-thesaurus-en-us myspell-en-gb

note do
apt-cache search openoffice
and look for help-en-gb , something like that as HELP does not get installed automatically
