Networking - Stopping DHCP search Klenje - 11.11.2006, 14:31 Uhr Titel: Stopping DHCP search
Hi, I've set with netcardconfig a netcard which connects to Internet with DHCP and I've set it to activate automatically at startup, so it correctly looks for DHCP. The problem is that if I'm not connected, it tries anyway to look for DHCP, and it goes on for a while; is there a way to stop the DHCP search, or to set a lower timeout? Otherwise sometime it takes one minute to reach the login screen, and that's pretty annoying. Hope I've explained it clearly

ctrl + c when the dhcp search starts will stop the search during boot. I don't know if there is a timeout option. I agree however that the current method is less than ideal for connections that might change from boot to boot.

I always configure the router IP as static and leave the nameserver IP blank, works always fine

thanks h2, ctrl-c does the trick.
Mylo: of course if you have always the same IP address or you use a router you can insert it so it won't activate DHCP and there will be no wait. But DHCP is useful when you don't have a fixed IP, so IMHO it's more a issue on DHCP implementation
