At the bottom says:
Zitat:
# apt-get install $(<old-packages-yyyymmdd.txt
)=""></old-packages-yyyymmdd.txt>
It is advisable to edit this list, so you can delete packages you don't want installed.
Reboot, and here you are.
That command line is confusing

Hello all,
I want to install kanotix but I am asking whether there are any prerequisites as far as knowledge is concerned. The problem is that my brother is a bastard who does not explain me anything and therefore I have to learn things myself. I would say that I know a reasonable amount about computers and I know what hardware I have under the bonnet. I have installed windows before but I then ghosted back my previous installation because I could not get the internet (wireless) to work. I asked my brother to sort this out but he answered "Use some diagnostic tools". Cunt. (I am aware though that I had to install the driver.)
I don't know everything but as I ask, are there any prerequisites (implicit or explicit) for downloading and installing kanotix? Much appreciation for any answers.

Found the instructions for updating my KANOTIX installation with a new version, <http://kanotix.com/FAQ-id_cat-63.html#q275>. Will be using KANOTIX-2006-Easter-RC4 for the upgrade to an existing Kanotix 2005-03 that was recently dist-upgraded (sucessfully).
I would like to reinstall the packages deleted during the upgrade, as I've added several packages and don't have a comprehensive list of what I've added. But am confused by the command line to add back the deleted packages, "apt-get install $(span>" that I found today, 04 Juky, 2006. To my inexperiencced eye that looks incomplete. Is that the correct command? If not, what is the correct command? |

I have a question about this. I have the 2006-1 RC4 installed currently and would like to have the final version when it is released. Do I have to download the .iso and either burn a cd or use fromiso to install it? Is there a way to upgrade to the final version? Mentioned above is code for reinstalling packages that get removed during an install. In the faq's it suggests that the file is edited to make sure nothing is there that you don't want. Where would I find that file?

You can use the old cd with fromiso only if kernel versions are identical. If the final version has a newer kernel, and you still don't want to burn a cd, you can use grub from your existing hd install to boot the iso file. But you first have to extract vmlinuz and miniroot from the iso file and add another boot stanza to /boot/grub/menu.lst as described in the FAQ: http://kanotix.com/FAQ-id_cat-63.html#q298 |

Thanks to both of you for your help. I just hate to burn a cd, use it once and toss it in the trash. I have sent some to friends but most people I know just want to turn on their computer and that is it. I even have trouble getting them to empty their cache every year or so and don't even mention antivirus or firewall to them.
Anyway, thanks for your help, looking forward to the final.
