          | G'day As I wrote in the other thread, I just bought a 22' Lcd monitor but after installing it, I cant seem to get it to work on Kanotix: the boot process continoue until the boot splash but just before booting into KDE-log on screen, monitor goes blank and gives and error window as <input not supported>

I think it's to do with the resolution settings, as this monitor has 1680x1050, as oppose to my old crt with 1024x768...

Any suggestion how can I fix this problem?

 cheers

          | Try "screen=1680x1050 vsync=60" as cheatcode from the live cd, or boot into runlevel 2 (add "2" as cheatcode and use knxcc as cheatcode). |

          | I have a 20.1 lcd and had no problems getting into kanotix but after every install I have to fix-res 1440x1050 to get it to display properly. It defaults to 1080 x 1024. Have you tried setting the res from the boot selection screen in grub?
 John

at boot selection screen in grub, the o/p is:

 Code:
Boot Options: root=/dev/sda1/ ro quid vga=791

do I set the resolution here with ??

 Boot Options: root=/dev/sda1/ ro quid vga=791 screen=1680x1050 vsync=60

and how do I get to runlevel 2 from grub options?

          | nitto,
I am a newbie and not that familiar with everything. I do not know what runlevel 2 does but I do know that if you hit 3 at boot you will go into runlevel 3 which is pure text. You can login as root, fix-res, and I believe you can then alt F7 to get back out. If not you can always start kde.

thanks, I now managed to fix the problem. However, I hit alt-3 at boot then ran kxncc to fix the resolution. I also installed the latest nvidia drivers for my video card, just in case!

          | Got you got it working. It hurts to sit there with a big new monitor that doesn't display right. I would make a note somewhere in case you reinstall and hit the same problem again.
 Congrats

          | I have had this same problem for a long time. I use resolution of 1280x1024. I cannot see text in init 3 and also as computer boots, no text is visible till the splash / boot screen appears. I use a 17" Sylvania lcd monitor. I cannot seem to solve the problem. I am thinking my video card is a piece of crap. It is some off-name card, a "Mad Dog" 64MB. It is a 3d card but I dont use the 3d drivers. Any suggestions as to how I can get this fixed? I am not sure about how to edit grub to run the commands you stated. My installation is on hda2. I see posted here this: screen=1680x1050 vsync=60
I run 1280x1024 myself. Can someone help me with where to edit grub so that when computer boots, it will find this line an execute it? I am using the latest boot splash screen but I dont see a place to enter cheat codes.

          | I am afraid that you are asking a brand new guy to linux but here is how I fixed my problem when I first installed kanotix. I went to the manual (http://linux.kopporama.de/en/km_config.html) under configuration and found a fix there. The only bad thing is the code there is wrong. This is what worked for me:
 Code:
fix-res 1440x1050

after this I hit ctrl-alt-backspace to restart the server. After signing back in I went to kmenu, control center, kanotix, display and selected the proper resolution. Haven't had a problem since.

Remember to change the numbers above to what ever your native or recommended resolution is for your monitor.

Let me know if this works for you and good luck,

 john
