Hi
I've got some old .kwd files created using KWORD under 2.6.11-kanotix-7. LibreOffice doesn't have a kwd filter, so tried using ABIWORD which has one, but ABIWORD recognises .kwd files from Version 1 and does not seem to be able to deal with the .kwd files I have.
Grateful for any ideas for converters?

Having a go, but they're all sources which need to be compiled
Anyone know if there's a deb somewhere out there? |

Could you clarify your question? What version of Kanotix are you running -- the version based on Squeeze, or the version based on Wheezy? If you're running the Squeeze-based version, won't the version of KWord in the repos (v2.2.1) open your file? |

H'mm.
Another possibility: you could always download a live Linux CD that includes KOffice. Like, off the top of my head, Salix Live KDE 13.37 (it's Slackware-based). Then open your document and convert it to some other format. |

Thanx. Good idea to use (and to bear in mind). |

Not such a good idea. Salix can't cope with a VESA monitor. Able to get as far as run level 3 (text based)
Will have to cast around for another live CD/DVD. |

Update
Three lumbering elephants later: Mint KDE, Mandriva, Chakra. The first two have replaced KWORD with Libre Writer, while the last has Calligra, but Calligra cannot read a KWORD document
Now found a nifty little distro with KWORD: Slax (just 200 MB), but only has one set of fonts, however if I can install the set I want I'm home & hosed! Decided to just stick with KWORD and alter the necessary files, as all the conversions fail to keep the KWORD framework.[ |

Open your kword file and save it as ODT. |

Trouble is, it looks like the original once one gets rid of frame borders, but that's as far as it goes. Try as I might, I haven't been able to get a cursor to access the text and modify it. It looks like I'm stuck with some sort of image or other |

Your *.kwd file isn't a KWord file, it's a tarball.
If you want to modify the text in the *.odt file, double-click on it. |

Something went wrong while tarring and 'fnt.kwd' must have got overwritten, and then included in the correct tarring. Good work! |
