I am using Enlightenment DR16. I saved a picture to my desktop. How do I set it as the background? I can't log in as root because /root isn't on the list of users, only my own username.

You need to use Esetroot - it's part of the Eterm package. Something like:
Code:
Esetroot -scale /path/to/image.jpg

Esetroot -h will give you all the options avaialble.

How funny that a new Linux user would decide to try what is perhaps the least traditional desktop out there. I like it. Smilie

I don't have eterm on this box for some reason so I use Aterm.

In Konquerer, I can right click the picture and set it as background, but the picture doesn't go on the Enlightenment background but if I switch to KDE it shows up.

To install eterm is easy
Code:
$ su
# apt-get update
# apt-get install eterm

Keep in mind that E16 is VASTLY different from anything you've ever seen before. It doesn't necessarily have all the bells & whistles that you find in KDE or Gnome.

I use E17 which is the latest incarnation of Enlightenment but it's still alpha so if you use it you have to be prepared for some 'interesting' things to happen. I don't know that I'd recommend it for a new Linux user. E16 is a bit of a stretch for a new user and it's at least stable. Winken

Check out the E16 forums
That's where I found this.
Get the documentation
Code:
wget http://easynews.dl.sourceforge.net/sourceforge/enlightenment/e16-0.16.8.2.tar.gz
unp e16-0.16.8.2.tar.gz

Have a look in that directory and see what the docs say.
