How do I remove NIS
After the HD installation the process ypserv ran, and as there was no need for it, I wanted to remove it, particularly because the logon process extended easily to 2-3 min (without server).
The #kanotix channel gave a fast solution on this.
# apt-get remove --purge nis
and that was all there was to it.
Thanks to slh
Addition from AchIlles?:
One can also leave the package installed, just in case you would need it perhaps at some point. NIS prevented will be prevented starting if you enter the following line in the terminal:
# update-rc.d -f nis remove
In order to have the shutdown NIS start again, the following should still be done:
thx to blaine
